Make the connection between above-ground activity and its effects below ground as U. of M. Extension hosts a field day, "Life in the Pits: A Look at Soil Management and Crop Health," from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 10 beginning at the American Legion, 60 6th Ave, Granite Falls.
Attendees will first hear an educational soil health presentation followed by a trip to dig four soil pits in different soil textures, crop management scenarios and eroded situations to illustrate how soil responds to tillage, topography and management. Speakers include Jennifer Hahn of the Minnesota Soil Health Coalition, NRCS soil scientist Kristin Brennan, extension educator Jodi DeJong-Hugues and more.
