Maple Syruping with the Twin Cities Metro Growers Network

Whether you’re looking to get started or home in on syruping skills, this workshop is a great learning tool for small-scale enthusiasts. Extension Educator Lia Spaniolo will lead participants through the tapping and syrup-making process with presentations and hands-on activities.

Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the history of maple syrup, laws and regulations, and techniques and equipment for extracting and processing sap for sustainability.

Guest Speaker: Shannon Stewart runs a small maple syruping operation, tapping 5-6 trees from her and neighboring yards (with neighbors' permission!). Last year, she got about 4 gallons of syrup which she gives to neighbors, friends and even a little leftover to sell. 

Agenda: The event will begin in the Recreation Room at the Coon Rapids Civic Center. After the indoor presentation portion, we will walk/drive a couple of blocks to see Stewart's "neighborhood sugarbush." Please come prepared to spend about half of the workshop time outside.

There will be light snacks and hot cider served.
