- vermicomposting booklet;
- filter system;
- black plastic sheeting to cover the bedding;
- peat bedding along with sand,
- powdered lime,
- blackstrap molasses, and worm juice, which will get the bin off to a roaring start; and
- a pound and a half of worms.
About Ellen Sandbeck:
She started Laverme’s Worms in 1989, and ever since she has been giving group vermicomposting presentations, answering questions, trouble-shooting, and even making the occasional housecall, in order to enable people to run their worm composting bins successfully. She has taught a wide variety of people, ranging from fifth graders to nonagenarians to inmates at a Federal Prison Camp, to successfully run their worm bins and transform smelly, gooey food waste into luscious, sweet-smelling organic fertilizer for their gardens. She is also a Federal Contractor, official title “Worm Farm Specialist,” and works with officers and inmates at the Federal Prison Camp in Duluth, Minnesota, managing the 100 foot long worm bin she set up on site in 2000. The bin is processing approximately 4,000 pounds of food waste per month.
Whether you are an East Central Chapter member, interested in joining our chapter farmer-to-farmer network or interested in joining to support sustainable farming and access to locally raised or grown food, fiber or forage this is the place to be.
