Grass-Based Dairy Pasture Walk: St. Joseph

Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship and SFA are hosting a pasture walk focused on grass-based dairy operations from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 6, at Schmitz Dairy, 29029 Kelp Rd, St. Joseph.
Speakers include SFA Livestock & Grazing Specialist Kent Solberg, Tamille Nennich of Famo Feeds and farmer Derek Schmitz on his outdoor/grazing calf housing. Topics will include:
- Grazing with irrigation pivots and designing paddocks within the path of the pivot
- Balancing rations on grass based dairy and transition into stored forage for winter months
- Grass identification and groups of grass
- Alternative outdoor calf housing
