DGA Summer Pasture Walk – Canton

06/28/2018 10:30 AM - 03:00 PM CT

Description

The public is invited to a Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship Summer Fling Pasture Walk from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thurs., June 28, at Haugen’s Springside Farm, 12620 Deer Rd., Canton. The main focus will be on pasture production to improve farm economics. Jim Paulson and Olaf Haugen will help us discuss pasture production financials and forage ideas for the Haugen farm.

Before lunch, we will briefly discuss current dairy farming pressures and hear results from an ongoing study looking at financial performance of dairy grazing farms in four states. Jim Paulson and Tom Cadwallader will be covering the results of the grazing dairy study. Afternoon discussion will include a tour and review of Haugen’s pasture. Summer slump and plans to increase grazing days will be addressed. We will discuss Olaf’s pasture management, feed costs, and the overall farm financial success.

The project (four state ongoing grazing diary farm financials) is sponsored by Green Lands Blue Waters and Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship, with funding support from the USDA Risk Management Agency.
