Minnesota Premium Garlic Project Field Day – Kenyon

06/30/2018 02:00 PM - 05:00 PM CT

Description

SFA's Minnesota Premium Garlic Project is hosting a field day from 2-5 p.m. Sat., June 30, at Seven Songs Organic Farm, 46544 70th Ave, Kenyon.

Seven Songs farmer Melissa Driscoll grows certified organic herbs, fruits and vegetables, including nine cultivars of garlic, on her seven-acre farm. One of her hoophouse-grown porcelain garlics won first prize at the 2012 Minnesota Garlic Festival, and Seven Songs also produces and sells Garlic Scape Pesto made with their own basil and scapes. Melissa is interested in the differences in storability of each of her nine cultivars, and in winter 2011-12 and winter 2015-16 she tested how well each stores in the regular home environment. This data helps market the garlic to chefs and farmers' market customers.

This event is free and open to all but registration is required. Bring a snack or drinks to share for social time at 4 p.m.

The Minnesota Premium Garlic Project will enhance profitability for existing and new farmers by improving premium garlic production in Minnesota through the advancement of best production and marketing practices, and by expanding markets and supply chains and conducting research on improved cultivation methods.
