Silvopasture Field Training Workshop: Becker

08/06/2020 08:30 AM - 01:00 PM CT

Description

Integrating grazing animals and forest management, or silvopasture, can be beneficial both for environmental conservation and as a farm income generator. Learn the principals of this managed intensive grazing system and hear from farmers utilizing these principles as SFA hosts Silvopasture Field Training workshops this August.

Suitable for marginal land and unmanaged wooded pasture, silvopasture combines livestock, forage, and trees into one holistic system. These workshops will illustrate how this farming system can improve soil health and water quality, enhance wildlife and prevent erosion – all while providing short- and long-term farm income.

This workshop is set for 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thurs, Aug. 6, at Tom Barthel and Gail Wilkinson's Snake River Farm, 18251 62nd St, Becker.

These events will take place outside with social distancing guidelines in effect; space is limited to 25 people per site due to Minnesota COVID-19 guidelines. Registration is free for current SFA members and $40 for nonmembers; scholarships are available for agricultural professionals. Pre-registration is required. CEUs applied for to offer Certified Crop Advisors. SFA recommends bringing face masks to its events.
