Deep Winter Greenhouse Open House – Pillager

12/08/2018 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM CT

Description

Central Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships, Grampa G's Farm and SFA are hosting an open house of a Passive Solar Deep Winter Greenhouse from 10 a.m. to noon Sat., Dec. 8, at 207 W Highway 210, Pillager.

These events showcase producers, in this case Shayne and Louise Johnson, who are building innovative season-extending structures on their farms and includes Deep Winter presentations, a ribbon-cutting, tours and Q&A time.

DWGs use passive solar heat collected from the sun in the day which is stored in an underground rock bed. At night that heat dissipates into the ambient space above to allow cold tolerant crops to grow. This technology will help small- and mid-sized farms increase their revenue potential helping to keep small farmers on the land and increase access to fresh locally grown food.

This event is free and open to all; please RSVP for planning purposes.
